No. Our branding and promotion is inspired by the Prohibition-era underground scene, but it is only an artistic interpretation of bygone days. Our events are reserved for people aged 18 years and over and are completely legal.
Burlesque is a tribute to the striptease of the past. It is a theatrical and artistic interpretation, using humour, costumes, dance and live music to entertain audiences. Burlesque shows are all about anticipation and the art of seduction and surprise. Burlesque is also inspired by vaudeville and cabaret, featuring comedy, parody and theatrical art. Just like when burlesque first started, today’s artists celebrate the natural beauty of the female body, with every curve and every imperfection. If you’re looking for a show that combines fantasy, fun and unique entertainment, the Speakeasy Burlesque troupe won’t disappoint.

Although there is no strict dress code, we encourage you to show off your creativity and dress up for the occasion. A lot of our guests dress according to the evening’s theme. The audience’s creative and diverse looks add to the magic of the atmosphere. Most of our guests draw on looks from the past, from the golden age and the roaring twenties to the disco era.
We’re inspired by burlesque in its purest form, when the movement first started, so there is no full nudity in our shows. When burlesque began, nudity was nonexistent in live stage performances. Our artists seduce with their stage presence and their dancing, never baring all to the audience. We feel burlesque is an art that’s been lost over time. We see so much nudity in the media today, on TV, online and in movies, that it’s made our society a little jaded when it comes to the human body. For us, the art of burlesque isn’t expressed by nudity, but by sensuality, subtlety, mystery and seduction, qualities that are often overlooked today. Although burlesque was considered scandalous when it first started, it is now perceived as a sophisticated performance showcasing feminine beauty. Speakeasy Burlesque also hosts shows that don’t include any form of nudity, including dance performances featuring incredible choreography, games of seduction and intricate period costumes… the perfect combination for your next event with family, friends or coworkers.
